PEJABAT PERWAKILAN PERTANIAN (PPP)

The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry currently has 8 representative offices abroad, namely in Rome, The Hague, Beijing, Tokyo, Bangkok, Sydney, Dubai and Washington DC. The representative offices in The Hague and Beijing were opened in February 2006 and November 2006 respectively. This was followed by its offices in Tokyo and Bangkok in September 2007. Representative offices in Sydney, Dubai and Washington DC were established in November/December 2007.

The Agricultural Counsellors abroad have the primary responsibility of securing market access for agricultural products consistent with the Government’s aspiration to make agriculture the third engine of economic growth. The objectives of the Agricultural Counsellor’s Office are to position Malaysia’s agricultural and agro-based products as the preferred choice in the global market as well as to identify market opportunities and potential areas that may be explored.

The strategy employed is by increasing awareness on Malaysian agricultural products, expanding market access and improving the standards and quality of Malaysian agricultural products. The agricultural representative offices carry out programmes such as promotion, branding, trade collaboration, intelligence and agricultural technical cooperation. Every Agricultural Counsellor’s Office must submit periodic reports on these programmes. The information will then be analysed to enable the Ministry to formulate a more robust and effective development policy for the agricultural sector.
