Seminar on Enhancement of Veterinary Antibiotic Management
With the collaboration of the Department Veterinary Services (DVS), Malaysia and FLFAM, another seminar of antibiotics with the theme “Enhancement of Veterinary Antibiotic Management” was successfully organised and held on 5 December 2016 at the Main Lecture Hall, MARDITECH Development Sdn Bhd, Serdang. Upholding the same objective as the first one held on 29 and 30 August, this seminar was further strengthened with the presentations by foreign speakers namely Dr Shabbir Simjee from the UK whose topic was “Prudent Use of Antibiotic in Producing Sustainable, Safe and Affordable Animal Protein”, Dr Mette Kirkeskov Sie, from Denmark on “System of Handling Antibiotic Usage and Resistance in Denmark and Europe” and Dr. Atsushi Tahara, from Japan on “Use of Colistin in Animal Health Field in Japan”. Dr. Marzuki Zakaria from the DVS also presented on “Role of DVS in Antibiotic Management”. The seminar was honoured by the presence of the President of the FLFAM, YBhg Datuk Jeffrey Ng who delivered a welcoming speech and the Deputy Director-General of the DVS, YBhg Dato’ Dr. Quaza Nizamuddin bin Hassan Nizam,representing the Director-General, who delivered the DVS’ stand on antibiotic usage in animals and officiated the event. The Ambassador of Denmark, Malaysia, Mr. Nicolai Ruge, was amongst a total of 200 attendees who came from various sectors of the industry such as feedmillers and members of MFA, drug companies and members of MAHNIA, poultry industry, farm vets, ministry staff, and staff of DVS benefited from the event with pertinent Q & A session allotted after each talk. The participants expectedly would have benefited having listened to differing systems and policies being in force in Denmark and Europe and the US on management of and the inculcation of prudent or responsible use of antibiotics in animals particularly food animals. Consumers of this country have the right to have the knowledge and hence the right to choose good food that is safe for themselves and their families.
